Albion’s youth team secured back-to-back victories with a 1-0 win away at Brentford thanks to a brilliant solo goal from Jimmy Muitt.
Despite not being at their best, Simon Rusk’s side ground out a dogged victory, achieving a second consecutive clean sheet in the process. The Bees had periods of pressure as they tried to find an equaliser but Olly Wray stood tall in the Albion goal, denying the hosts a share of the spoils.
The decisive moment came in the 35th minute, when Muitt picked up the ball just inside the opposition’s half and after beating two players stroked the ball into the bottom corner.
Wray then made a collection of good saves to keep the hosts at bay as Albion went in at half time a goal up.
Elliot Levy caused the Bees numerous problems throughout the contest but Rusk’s side were unable to double their tally in the second half.
However a solid defensive display limited Brentford’s opportunities, with Rusk’s young side holding on for the victory.
After the second shut-out in a row Rusk told seagulls.co.uk, “We were not at our best but credit to the boys for seeing out the game.
“We have had better performances but we had not played for three weeks which is always difficult to come back from. At the end of the day it is another clean sheet to build on which will give the lads some confidence.
“We have a tough trip to Charlton who are arguably the strongest team in the league so we will go in to that game in a positive mood after this win.”
