Technika Televisions

I had a budget of £500-£600 for a TV, I was going to get a Samsung 42 inch, would like smart but not fussed about 3D.
Turns out that Mrs Chopper has spent more of our hard earned than I thought, so, after a severe reprimand I noticed that Tescos are selling Technika 40 inch TV,s for £238 (£100 off) picture seemed ok in the store.
Has anyone purchased one?
Any good (for the price)
Am I wasting my money?

I've no experience with Technica but I'd never buy a TV from a supermarket. Nip into Richer Sounds and see what they can do for you.

Why would you never?

I bought one off amazon (closer to a supermarket than a specialist shop these days)... And it's a beaut!

Buy LG or Samsung. Samsung are slightly more expensive though.

I have a small and cheap Technika with DVD that we use in the kitchen. Its OK for the price but not a patch on more well known brands that we have elsewhere in the house. The picture quality on the LG in the bedroom is particularly impressive although the sound quality is very poor.

Stick with the reputable brands mate. Far less likely for something to go wrong. Samsung are by far the best quality/value TV's in the world at the moment so I recommend sticking with them.

Another reason to avoid Technica: Technika TV Warning!! - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

Thanks for that, really want a Samsung. I may wait, save up again to the original budget and see whats available in January sales.
We have a Richer Sounds but doubt they can help with the new budget. But will deffo visit when I have more money.
Will also look at Amazon etc
Argos have some good brands too, but for some reason there is something about Argos that make me reluctant, don't know why.
Can you sue a wife for spending money without her husbands permission?

Great point, it is not just picture quality is it, often wondered how they can get great sound when the speakers on these TV's are so small, without one of those sound bar things.
Saw a Samsung the other day, chrome and white, the frame round the screen was wafer thin, absolute beauty.

stay with the recognised brands and go for a slightly smaller size. 40"+ TV sizes are often larger than necessary for the room anyway.

Got 2 Technika's in kitchen and bedroom, both okay and good value. The Panasonic in the lounge blows them away! For day to day news and general TV the cheapies are fine, for the lounge get your wallet out.

I'd avoid Technika. I had an ipod dock of theirs that decided to stop working after about 6 months and have now got a Technika 22" tv that randomly switched itself on - I got it for the spare room as it was only £65 but wished I'd spent more as picture/sound is very average at best. Fortunately as it can only be 'on' or in 'standby' mode (you can't switch it off just like a lot of tv's these days!) I'd ordered a powersave plug which overcame the problem.

Answer is that you can't. I've played with the settings on the LG and attached sky box but I am still not happy with the sound - too thin. A decent AV amp and speaker system works in a lounge but seems a bit OTT anywhere else in the house!

Got the above one last year, save. & get one, it's better than an 'absolute beauty'

If you live in Vegas you may have visited the future technical exhibition thing. I went once it was brilliant, except that it makes you reluctant to buy something current because you can see whats coming up in the near future.
