How gullible are some people.

I'll find the 'win' percentage figures later, they will be amazing.

Does anyone have a 'spare' tenner in their pocket?
I bet if you do it's because you don't waste money on things like scratchcards.

Yet another tax on the poor and stupid.
(Which is why I do 3 lots of numbers a week :lol:

Like any betting, don't use what you can't afford to lose. If you can afford it, what does it matter.

I had 5 numbers once on an xmas 25mill payout. Only got £3k though. Nearly, but not quite. Have not played the lotto for about 10 years, but re-opened my account a couple of weeks ago - you never know, I might get that 6th number next time.

The approx odds on winning on the £10 scratch card is 3.3/1, the lowest prize is £10 the highest is £4 million. That said I wouldn't chuck a tenner at a scratch card ever. I very occasionally get a couple of the £2 ones but never normally win. The other half has had a £500 win recently on them, she also won £250 at bingo a few weeks ago the jammy bitch. Most I've ever won on the scratch cards is £156.

I still cannot see how 16 year olds are allowed to buy lottery tickets yet cannot play a fruit machine with a jackpot of higher than £5 and a stake higher than 10p a go, or go into a book makers and place a bet, yet the government have no issues with them spending £10 on a single ticket.

Also what you need to remember is there are 4 x 4million jackpots on the scratch card. Once one has gone the odds will reduce further and further and you can bet that all 4 winning tickets are not issued yet. The public should be informed when buying a ticket how many prizes have been won as this again further reduces the chances of a winning ticket, would you spend £10 on a ticket if you knew all the top prizes had already been won?. At least with the main lottery you have as much chance with your ticket this week as you will next week, there is always a jackpot up for grabs regardless of if it was won last week

Has always been 16 for lotteries. Historically seen as a less hard form of Gambling than other forms. Scratchcards stretch the boundary of that a bit........

But is it gambling when it is a game of chance? Same as fruit machines really. I see gambling as something where you use your own perceived skill or judgement to predict the outcome of something and bet on it.

The difference is betting (placing money on a unknown event) and gaming (playing a game which has a certain element of probability of winning)

I had the first 3 numbers on one line Saturday. I got WELL excited. I didn't get any more, but the excitement alone (well, and the fact I'd already won a tenner) was worth the £££'s I've spent on the lottery.

Overall, the average person who plays will lose money, otherwise it wouldn't be viable for the companies to run them.
Of course you will get the odd winner, but it's likely that you'll only get 10-20% of your money back in the long run.

Without sounding too synical,does anyone know anyone who has ever one all six number on the Lotto? I only ask as I do the "idiot tax" on Saturday and Wednesday same numbers etc, and I heard that thanks to social media we are now only five people away from any stranger in the street, if that is correct surely one of my few hundred freind on facebook will know or have a freind who knows someone who has won it and yet no-one seems to know a jackpot winner, not saying its all a huge fix but.........

Quite a few.

There are multiple "regulars" who have taken to these like a duck to water and will buy multiple ones a week (they've actually been on sale for about 6 weeks, contrary to what the current TV advert says) whether they win or not.

Mind you, I work in a town full of lottery obsessives, so perhaps mine is not a typical example. One customer of ours came in on SIX seperate occasions yesterday to buy scratchcards (not the £10 ones mind) without winning a penny, and has been in four more times today to my knowledge.

With 6 degrees of seperation you're only 6 away from anyone on the planet theoretically - or something like that. As for you personally knowing someone, it would depend on whether your group of acquantances was representative of the lottery playing public, I would think.

My Dad knew someone who won the pools once - it ruined their life.
