BHA v Cardiff City - Score Predictor

With the fifth best away defence in the Championship, I think Cardiff play in two banks of four (4-4-2).

The back four as a unit they have been together all season and Hudson and McNaughton were regulars from at least the season before.
Gunnarson (long throw-ins) and Whittingham (free kicks) are two good central midfielders (most Championship sides can only name one good midfielder) and there is Kenny Miller up front. Not sure they have any wingers to worry about unless Liam Lawrence qualifies. And there is Gestede who I am sure I have seen playing wide.

TEAM NEWS

Brighton have no new injury worries for the visit of Cardiff, but Marcos Painter (hamstring) remains out.
Vicente Rodriguez is short of match fitness and will not feature, and centre-half Tommy Elphick is still sidelined with an Achilles problem.
Cardiff could hand a debut to new loan signing Liam Lawrence who joined from Portsmouth last week.
Rudy Gestede (hamstring) misses out so on-loan Newcastle striker Haris Vuckic could start.
MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head
• Both these clubs have won 21 of 58 competitive matches over nine decades.
• Brighton won 3-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium in August, but have not done the double over the Welsh club since the 1984/85 second tier campaign.
• Brighton need to score three goals to total 50 in home league games against the Bluebirds.
Brighton & Hove Albion
• The Seagulls go into this game with the longest current unbeaten sequence in the Championship of 10 games (W6, D4).
• Ahead of these midweek fixtures, Brighton and League One Charlton are the only clubs of the 92 in the top four divisions not to have lost a league game in this calendar year.
• If selected, Adam El-Abd will be making his 250th league appearance for the Seagulls.
Cardiff City
• While Brighton have been steadily climbing back towards the play-offs, Cardiff have been going in the opposite direction, with one win in six league outings.
• The losing Carling Cup finalists have lost four of five Championship games, including the last two, and travel in search of their first away win in any competition in this calendar year.
• Peter Whittingham, who played every minute of Cardiff's Championship matches this season, is on the verge of his 250th appearance for the Bluebirds.

Hopefully we can get them running about early and tire them out for LuaLua to tear them apart in the second half. 2-1

I can't find the Team thread. This is a **** four star game, so we might have special tactics. Craig Noone could get a start and Matt Sparrow could be on the bench. Vincelot could be in as a contender for that last place on the bench?

With their strong midfield, I think we will have to find a counter, but they now have Liam Lawrence who could play wide. Whittingham ran all over the park against West Ham and will be hard to counter.

I am stuck at home with an illness: the lurgy that will not clear up.

Expect both sides to start with just 1 striker so midfield will be swamped. Need to utilise the wings as much as possible and for that reason I'd be tempted to start with 2out of Buckley/Lua Lua and Noone to try and stretch the play as much as possible. Leave Razak, Bridcutt and Navarro to control the middle.

This would mean dropping Barnes though which I don't think would happen as we need his defensive abilities, so predict we'll line up the same again:

---------Brez-----------

Jara Greer El-Abd Mattock

----Navarro Bridcutt----
--------Razak----------

Buckley----------Barnes

---------CMS----------

Score prediction - 1-1 or 2-2

I agree. A bit rare for me. Switching wings with a long pass would be a good tactic as their back four moves over to the side of play the ball/play is on. But this has to be quick and accurate and the risk is losing possession with a misplaced pass.

I like to think we could do better than Liverpool.

Barnes is a great player, but he's not going to be able to run with the ball at their defence and try to beat his man. So I would really be tempted in going with 2 out and out wingers. Just can't see Gus wanting to lose Barnes workrate and defensive skills.

I still do not go with two out and out wingers though. Because it is only possible to play on one wing at a time. Two winger/midfielders is a different matter and Craig Noone can tuck inside as an "interiore" (left to centre) when Buckley runs down the wing on the right (he is not so good on the left). It is easier to play a left winger and an overlapping right full-back with 4-3-3. Not with 4-4-1-1 though.

The graphs do not fit completely on the page. Is this the same for others?

Hope we turn it up a notch or two tonight , Donny brought us down to their level with a poor pitch on Saturday. Goes without saying the ref is going to be shit.
