Does anyone play them as they seem sooo popular in a bookies...

I lost 200 in one yesterday and felt really bad after.... said i wont play them again but it is hard... Was mad lost the hundread in my wallet and then tried to chase my money back by using my card... After saving a pund here and there and making my own lunches to save cash... something like this is pure madness...

I go to the bookies every sat and sometimes in the week (yes i may have a problem) but my mates i go with also lose a few hundred pound every week...

Questions

1) how is it legal for the bookies to get a way with a max bet of £200 and the spin to be over in 10 seconds.. I see so many people lose thousands... It seems deadly and there is no restrictions for people who play and cant stop themselves

2) does anyone really win and to me it seems like a biased number generator in the bookies favour... and yet i still play them to try and win...

Im already struggling to give up smoking and havent had a smoke since new year... Can i cope by not gambling aswell... I do love a footy accumulator and its going to place that bet that i play the roulette.

A guy i work with started playing them about 6 years ago, he won £1500 the first week and £3000 a few weeks later, I was jealous as you like obviously. since then he has progressed to losing all his wages every month sometimes by the 3rd or 4th. he has the odd win but it doeasnt even catch up on what hes borrowed to feed the thing.
He is an intelligent guy but he has a blind spot on this. I once popped into the bookies to see him and he asked me to keep playing the machine for him while he went for a ciggy, I lost £80 while he was out and I was playing it slowly, he just shrugged when he got back and kept playing.
The shops are only allowed 4 machines per shop, i wonder why ? You may notice more instances of a bookies having 2 shops in a relatively small town, just to get 8 machines in.
I go to victoria every morning and see people playing them and sometimes even a queue at 9 in the morning, unbelievable.
I should keep smoking and go cold turkey on the machines, ask the local bookies to ban you, they will be happy to do it for you.
I know a guy that works in our local and he says everyone feels sorry for my workmate, he is billy big bollocks for three days of the month and is then reduced to scrounging for 3 weeks.
Its very sad
You know you arent going to make your fortune playing them. there is nothing to give up

Try for a few days not playing but watching others, add up their losses, feel good that you had the sense to avoid them.
You have to see it as pathetic and ridiculous because it is.
Good luck

Always thought the roulette machines are a joke, i mean the machine has to take a certain % of cash before it pays out. Unlike a roulette table in a casino that could've taken no money so you have a reasonable chance of getting paid out. If your luck is in.

I not sure how it works in a bookies as to checking who plays the machines how often and how much cash is spent? But i know casinos have a social responsibility to its members and will check how many visits you have in certain period, how much cash you're spending and if your betting patterns have changed dramatically e.g. larger bets.

Brighton factually.....
There not called Crack machines for nothing, stay well clear

The bookies are there for one reason only to take money off you.

They are always in the most deprived areas of towns as desprate people do desprate things.

As someone who has lost so much in the past stay well clear fella, count your loses accept you have lost and do not chase money you will never get back, even if you gain it back you will thing your on a winning streak and win some more and then guess what.....

Give it all back & then some.

Stay strong and walk on by from now on fella

Great replies... Even today was tempted to try and win it back... because in the past i have had those £200 winners but also the £350 losers... I think of myself as quite strong and i may stay away from these horrible machines as i hate losing cash and cant afford too... however i do question how these bookies can have these machines... weaker people must be totally hooked and it really can destroy lives and families... I never ever go into a bookies without seeing at leats one person lose a few hundred...

Its hard to beat the buzz of a winning numbers but after having 2 or 3 big losses of over 300 - 500 pound the losing far out weighs the wins...

I will still however do my football accumulators but even then i would do £5 a few years ago now i am doing a £20 line and £10 on other bets....

Plus it doesnt help when u see to good friends lose hundreds and hundreds and shrug it off.. As it goes one of them won £800 yesterday and thats what made me try my luck... pure greed and a need for cash in these hard times.

Maybe if you're gonna place a footie accumulator do it online and not at the bookies.

Yea i do but then i go the online black jack and roulette... I never use to play casino games until recently and its gradually got a hold...

I wanted to hear that those machines in the bookies are totally rigged as they offer a payout percentage but many people also say they are random and if they are random i may continue to play them... Arggghhh

Think i may just stop playing but its boredom at lunches at work... with a bookies over the road....

If its random ask your mate who works in the bookies if the machine ever runs at a lose?

I used to program computers and when you are coding there is no such thing as a random chance, a randomly generated number ... yes a random chance ... no. they arent rigged, they are programmed.

I have never really understood why people use these machines? I used to be a fan of the Casino down at the Marina and playing roulette at the tables as you get quite a buzz from that but I can't really see how you can from a machine in a betting shop especially when nobody is really sure if they are fixed or favour the house

Knock it on the head.

When you get to the point of talking about "chasing a loss" and/or "winning it back" you are on a very slippery and dangerous slope. You've got to stop NOW and seek help if required to do so.

Do all you can to remove the temptation from your life - don't visit bookies and, when you're out and about, only take an amount of cash that you know you need with you. Leave the plastic cards behind.

The elation of a win, particularly of making up a previous loss, feels great but the sickener of losing a serious wedge of cash is far stronger.

Good luck chap.

I used to know a guy that wrote software to test fruit machines, they have to offer a specific probability of winning and meet this over a set amount of time. If they don't meet the levels they state then they can't be used, I imagine the same is true for roulette machines.

I thought that these roulette machines did offer a payput percentage and to offer a payout percentage must mean that they are rigged in some way? A real roulette wheel cant offer percentage payouts...

I do leave my card at home and take say 50 out but sometimes i forget to take my card out and it all goes tits up...

These machines really should not be allowed in the high street or at least have a £10 spin limit... £200 a spin for a 10 second spin... You could lose you house in an hour... not good its praying on the weak and the poor, its really the people that need the money are the chasers...

So to stop gambling would i have to stop my accumulators on a sat too?? i love my footy bets...

Having played these machines A LOT im aware of 2 distinct theories:

1) The machine manufacturer has to guarantee that each number delivered is random AS FAR AS THE INDIVIDUAL PUNTER IS CONCERNED. That basically means that it does not need to be random for the operator. So in other words they can pick the number that delivers them the most profit around all their 100s of machines every time. Unfortunately this satisfies the law as it is random for each individual.

I genuinly believe that they are easier to run level to expected value (ie losing 1/36th of your money every time) at peak opening times as the sheer volume will level out the numbers.

2) They work like fruit machines and each machine will make 2% (ish) profit come rain or shine.

My advice? If you suffer form addiction like me steer clear. if you can handle a gamble and walk away then play them for fun - but remember that as with any casino game the longer you play the less chance you have of winning, so bet everything your prepared to lose early and go for a big score of walk away !!!
