Never heard those lyrics to build a bonfire.

Didn't the G.O.S.B.T.S. lyrics used to be "You may tell them all that we play football for Sussex by the sea?"

Blimey you must be older than me! Yes, I believe those were from the 'Norman Wisdom' version. That version was expunged from history when Wisdom deserted us and went back to following Arsenal.

Oooh, and while we're on the subject of Pedants can I say my joke? Ok, thanks.

Q = Who started the Pedants' Revolt?
A = Which Tyler.

Why am I the only person who finds that funny? :p :p

One of the best songs we ever sang was

I went up to Selhurst just the other day
Singing Singing Brighton are the Champions
I saw Terry Vennables crying on a wall
I said to him
What's up my friend?
He said the Palace run again
Singing Singing Brighton are the Champions
etc etc

to teh tune of Buttercups ad Roses

I don't want to keep hearing those peoples names so I'm going back to.................
Build a bonfire
Build a bonfire
Put the Palace on the top
Put the pompey in the middle
And we'll burn the f***ing lot.:flameboun

Whist it may be accurate (and true) to add G**g S*****y's name to the third line, it is historically wrong.

Unfortunately, his name was not serenaded at the Goldstone during the reveloution, so I'm afraid that the actual words used were.......

"Build A Bonfire
Build A Bonfire
Put Bellotti on the top
put Bill Archer in the middle
and we'll burn the f***ing lot.

............ and we will

Save your breath Henfield One. I've been waging a one man campaign to have to correct words for Sussex by the Sea (Going up AND WE'LL win the Cup, not 'TO win the Cup') but I've come the the conculsuion that either most Albion fans don't have English as a first language or they're so irredeemibly thick they don't realise that what they are singing DOESN'T ACTUALLY MAKE ANY SENSE.

Quite agree, I've mentioned this on here as well. It only changed for the '83 cup run, why the hell does everyone still sing it?

Join the Going up AND WE'LL win the Cup fan club!

I always sing

'And we'll win the Cup'

everyone else gets it wrong though.

agreed - so do I, but I remember the song from before 83 - late 70's when we were going well in the League Cup (Ipswich, West Brom, Derby) and in the old Div 3.

Also agree that Stanley was as much of a crook as the rest, he was also a coward who disappeared when the going started to get tough and moved on the "help" East Preston.

Note: above should be interspersed with a number of "allegedlies" (sp)

Hey lads, just sing, what does it matter if someone makes the odd syntax error, noise is what we are after.

Personally I think we need to add another signature song to go along with GOSBTS, one with a bit of heart, anyone heard the Bristol Rovers version of Goodnight Irene, it's impressive when sung en masse, perhaps someone could tailor the lyrics to suite our cause.

Oh, and forget the 'bright eyes' song,.... it's pap.

PS: roll on Wrexham...... see you all in the Wynnstay Friday night.
