Zamora was mentioned ahead of tonights England game,

Mr Longhurst then said " ex Brighton and hove Albion"...in a proud sort of way...

No mention of Spurs, Bristol or Fulham.....

Just wondering?

I'm always baffled by the use of any given reporter to refer to a player as 'ex-' or 'the former' so and so.

What value or context does it add to any given article UNLESS they're talking about his career as a whole?

In the same way that newspapers always add people's ages after their name. Odd convention.

I don't think the broadsheets do unless the age is relevant or remarkable.

And invariably put a value on their house, as if this defines the sort of person they are.

"The victim lived in a £450K mansion" etc etc
