I am going to take this along in future and sing it all

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Light is the love of a soldier
That's what the ladies say
Lightly he goes a-wooing
Lightly he rides away,
In love and war, we always are
As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies joy
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Still think these words should be BOUNCED along on the big screen. Especially for all the JCLs ;)

Good luck with that. They don't play the whole music.

But it was great that they changed it slightly yesterday from the Donny game by playing just one verse followed by the chorus.

HA! mentioned this on another thread and thought it was just me going mad. Worked really well.

You going mad?
NEVER.

Well, maybe a touch.

Edit: I didn't mean touch in that way

They've edited the version of the tune that is used as the teams come out. It now starts with an instrumental version of the second verse. The new version lets people sing the "GOSBTS, GOSBTS, We're going up ..." bit twice.

Top work.

Yup, they just need to get the words on the screen at the start of each half now.

We're good at football
In Sussex by the sea

as sung as a young lad at school.

I doubt that many will be singing "let your hearts be gay."

altogether now....

GOODOLE SUS BYSEA
:)

I thought that having the music playing loudly so that people can hear it as the teams came out (as opposed to when we were at Withdean) definitely had an effect of slowing people down when they sang the chorus

Hopefully a few more weeks doing this and we will start to sing it slower again every time.

so its this then

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men 'we' are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

I have spent some time researching this and there have been a number of posts in the past. There is no immediate answer as it depends upon the club just how long the music continues for and therefore what words/lyrics are appropriate.

The one thing which is obvious is that your lyrics are not quite right. The emboldened 'we' needs to be taken out as it doesn't scan or indeed make sense.

PS. All in favour of what you are suggesting but my e mails to BBC Radio Sussex fell on deaf ears !

so with a few corrections and slight amendments how does this look

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men are we:
So when you go from Sussex,
wherever you may be,
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You can tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.
