Venue: Amex Stadium
Date: 6th August 2011
Kick Off: 15:00
Referee: Eddie Ilderton

Team News:

Player/Coach Mauricio Taricco and striker Will Hoskins are set to shake off knocks and will be available for selection for Gus Poyet's side. Central defensive duo Tommy Elphick and Adam El-Abd are set to miss out though.

Doncaster could give debuts to Giles Barnes, Tommy Spurr, Richard Naylor, Kyle Bennett, James Baxendale and Chris Brown. Several of their players will miss the game against the Seagulls including James Chambers, James O'Connor, Martin Woods and Shelton Martis.

Match Preview:

14 years after leaving the Goldstone Ground, Brighton finally have a stadium they can call their own, and they begin their Championship campaign full of confidence after winning League 1 at a canter last season under the mercurial guidance of manager Gus Poyet. The departures of Glenn Murray and Elliott Bennett were a blow to fans, however this was softened by several marquee signings including Scotland international striker Craig Mackail-Smith for a club record 2.5m fee from Peterborough, and Will Buckley from Watford for 1m. They join early summer signing Will Hoskins, experienced utility player Roman Vincelot, and talismanic winger Kazenga Lua Lua as new faces to join the club over the summer.

Doncaster have been more conservative with their spending over the summer, although they have made several shrewd acquisitions, including the vastly experienced Richard Naylor, and highly rated youngster Tommy Spurr. Manager Sean O'Driscoll will be looking for James Coppinger to pull the strings in midfield, with highly rated striker Billy Sharp ready to inflict some damage upfront.

Good detail, a worthy start to the first official league match thread at the Amex.

My prediction (team included);
Ankergren, Calderon, Dunk, Greer, Painter, Noone, Sparrow, Bridcutt, Dicker, LuaLua, Mackail-Smith.
Brighton 3-1 Doncaster (Mackail-Smith, LuaLua, Greer)

I think you have got that team absolutely spot on Ninja Elephant. I would select exactly the same 11 to start.

A historic and emotional day for the mighty Seagulls and all who follow them.

Win, lose or draw it will be an unforgettable experience for the 22,000 crowd, many of whom are taking their seats for the first time in our new home. But we are all hoping for a famous victory to seal the day in style as we roar "Brighton are Back!"

Batton down the hatches, lock up your daughters and get that dog some earplugs.

Although I have gone for a draw in the betting thing I will go 2-1 to us, first goal to be a blazer from Noone then Sparrow with a knock-in.

Yes probably I am a little over-optimistic thinking we won't concede. I guess as long as we score 1 more it doesn't really matter.

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Light is the love of a soldier
That's what the ladies say
Lightly he goes a-wooing
Lightly he rides away,
In love and war, we always are
As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies joy
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Unlike Donny on that last game at the Golstone its going to be a fine, warm and sunny 20degrees today in Brighton.

And unlike that day in April 97, the forecast for the the Albion is a fine, warm, sunny and hopeful one. Thanks Dick, Tony, Stuart, Robbie and most of all us all for never giving up on this wonderful football club.

Drink in the day everyone for this is one to tell the grandkids about.

Yeah dont agree with that line up. Barnes or Hoskins will SURELY start..............SURELY. Not gonna be just 1 up top is it............!

I see it as a 4-3-3 not a 4-5-1 as follows:

Ankergren

Calderon Dunk Greer Painter

Sparrow Bridcutt Dicker

Noone CMS Lua-Lua

Subs: Hoskins, Buckley, Taricco, Barnes, Brezovan
