Below is a quick off the top of my head list of songs that the more talented wordsmiths out there could try to create an original new song for either the team or a specific player. I've not selected from any specific period, just gone for songs that meet as many of these as possible:

  • Are memorable or already well known
  • Contain catchy sections or chorus
  • Simple Lyrics
  • Pertinent Lyrics

The Clash - London Calling - Brighton Calling?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lotkzHsIuoA

Roxette - It Must Have Been Love - the Chorus is slow and easy to sing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPH3iDAhkb8

Jefferson Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us now - once again the chorus is slow easy to sing, and a lot of the words are relevant already

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBoQvhzeeCY

Abracadabra - Steve Millers Band - catchy, memorable.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_scFjd2pSI

Saturday Night – Whigfield - catchy chorus, easy lyrics.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3CWkayic5Y

Ace Of Base - All that she wants - slow, well known? repeatable chorus

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Billy Joel Uptown Girl - slow, melodic, well known tune with simple lyrics

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEIcTstEmnQ

Beatles - Let it Be - I know this is used elsewhere, but it's beautiful and fits all the criteria

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations - catchy, well known, a but tricky perhaps

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

The Who - Pinball Wizard - bit too fast? But any chorus which features 'Wizard' must be possible

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Human League - Don't you Want me Baby

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough - If only for the Chorus

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

This is just a few - perhaps if other's have candidates they can add them. We can do this!

The only decent song from that list is London calling. Some real awful tunes in that list.

It's not the quality of the tune that's key - it's whether we can adapt it.

If you can suggest better songs please do.

Some shocking choices of song there lol.

You've lost that loving feeling would sound class, even with the original words.

Ok - add that to the list.

As I said, I just picked some random Youtube clips of songs with slow enough / catchy sections.

I actually think that the "new" north stand chant sounded superb, but as an alternative I thought the "Over the Rainbow" version at "Brighton 'til I die" with the following (slightly amended) lines would be brilliant:-

"Somewhere over the Amex
Seagulls fly
And I know that forever
I'm Brighton 'til I die"

Slightly block specific, but how about...

'Que sera, sera, we used to be W3E, we used to be W3E, que sera, sera...'

I can understand that but come on some of those songs and with our gay image you might as well have a scissor sisters track or Soft Cell.

I used to love the North Stand
But now I'm old and fat
It's in the West Stand Upper
That you will find me sat

This was suggested for Lua Lua a few weeks back, but I think it died a death, I think its a corker...... with the words as follows, or something similar... try it, it really works....

Lua Lua
Ooo yeah

I really really like this. Could imagine the whole of the North and West Stands on their feet, around the 90 minute mark, if we're clearly going to win the game, singing this. Would sound superb.
