How do you pronounce the 'Am' bit of Amex?

Is it
1: Amex as in Amy?
2: Amex as in the Ham?

I have been saying 1 but now think I am wrong.

Amex is short of course for American Express, so how do you pronounce "American"? Therefore it should surely be option 2, pronounced "Am Ex".

AWesome thanks, need to retrain brain now. You are right - could just say Falmer, wonder if people will say Amex or Falmer?

Yep - my bad.

Sure I've heard people say do you take Amex with the Aymex pronouciation, happy to put it down to my extreme stupidity though.

^ All true, of course. But if you were to look at it, and you didn't know it was short for American Express, I bet the majority would assume it's pronounced "Ay-mex". So I can partially understand why some might think it could be pronounced like that.

But of course it IS short of American Express, so it's a rather moot point!

This used to really wind me up when I worked there. Even some of my ex-colleagues used to pronounce it A-Mex :nono:
