There is one on here who looks twice as mad as they do...,

Like who ? :shrug::D

Well done to everyone that ran Brighton

Has anyone done https://www.centurionrunning.com/races/south-downs-way-50-2019 ? I see them set off every year as they go from my gym and think they all look a bit mad !

I have......really enjoyed it, starts at Hillbarn Rec and finishes with a lap of the track in Eastbourne. Centurion races are extremely well organised - highly recommended. They have 4 x 50 milers and 4 x 100 milers as their core events and have a lot of 'Grand Slam' runners doing all 4 in a year.

Just catching up on this thread. Congrats to everyone who did Brighton on Sunday, especially Mr Blobby , BenElton'sBrother and Ninja Elephant on your PBs  It seems like it wasn't quite the perfect conditions it looked like from the forecast. The wind can play such a huge factor. It's great to read all your stories, even if you didn't have the best day.

I got back from Boston last night. I wasn't running, but I had a fantastic time as a spectator and just being there to experience the whole event. It's amazing to see so many fast runners all in one place. Almost everyone I was tracking had a bad day. People were really worried about it being a wet one again but a massive thunderstorm cleared about an hour before the race. This meant it was dry for the race and got really hot and humid, completely against what people were expecting.

I did a coach tour of the whole course on Sunday, and I can now appreciate why people say it's so tough. It's net downhill but there's barely a flat piece on the course. Continuous ups and downs and then the big Newton Hills. I'm going to be running it next year and I'm already looking at how to incorporate more hills into my long training runs.I'm excited and apprehensive for Boston 2020!

The biggest plus about going to Boston: I flew out when the Bournemouth match was on and flew back when the Cardiff match was in. Missed the entire shit shows!

I can't contemplate running that far and losing the race by 1 second. Did you get to see the finish or is it absolute chaos to see the finish line? Is it next year's race you qualified for?

Brighton
Didn’t see any other Albion shirts at Wolverhampton parkrun this morning. Lovely sunny morning, three loops of a nice little park with a lake, right next to Molineux. Friendly banter from local Wolves fans running, all of whom seem to want us to stay up rather than Cardiff.

Didn’t go all out as I’m in my taper for London, but still got first in age group. There was a young bloke puffing and blowing on my shoulder all the way round, and then at the end he put a spurt on to sprint past me for the line.

Afterwards he thanked me for inspiring him to make an effort, and then confessed that he’s a local Palace fan who didn’t want to be beaten by an old bloke in a Brighton shirt ...if I’d known, I’d have given him a proper run for his money.

I fear that that’s the enjoyable bit of my day over.

Absolutely rammed at Guildford today, probably why the results aren't in yet. Anyway, a 20:05 didn't even get me a top 30 finish, but I'm happy with the improved time, but boy do I feel slow at the moment! :D

Bloody Worthing!
Had a crack at the new (2nd event) Littlehampton PR. Really nice course - a couple of laps along the prom, so flat but windy (today a fierce cross-wind). Plenty of parking and on a day like today a pleasure to be there with about 250 others. Needless to say, a very friendly bunch.
21.51 (76.05% AG) - nice to be back under 22 again.

I was right - 650 runners! I finished in 20:06 with a 69.49% AG.

I’m having a Steve Ovett time at the moment; a spell of weakness and finding nothing there. Was short of breath again today at Prom Parkrun at 7:30 pace. Ridiculous. Couldn’t cycle up to Western Road after. I won’t try and run my way out of this slump. Most unusual but will listen to the body.

Evening all.

It's been a weird week for me and I have the natural depression and "what next" that comes at the end of four months marathon training where it didn't quite work on the day. I also have the natural high of "I've finished two marathons" :clap2: to counter that.

My recovery has been much better than last time, however. A bath with Epsom Salts immediately after before a week at The Manor in Devon which Dazzer knows, doing everything I was prohibited from in training, Four games of five a side football with no injury, thirty six holes hacking round a par 3, continous cricket, short tennis, ping pong, meat and two veg three times a day and as much cider as I could fit in meant I could come downstairs normally by Wednesday and am now absolutely broken again.

Am going to take advantage of the nice weather and hit up 14 or so miles on Easter Monday to try to get back in to it but have no immediate races planned or targets to achieve. Any suggestions most welcome. Need to factor in that her indoors "is glad all that training is over".

Three Forts half is a nice one to do post marathon, otherwise it’s a bit of a lean period until autumn now and Barns Green.

I did Cliffe Castle parkrun in Keighley today, near the mother in laws. Nice course around a very pretty park - started off with a long downhill and,as you knew it would, the course had its revenge with a vicious climb - three laps with the climb getter harder each time - over 100m climbing by the end. Finished a respectable 22nd out of 170 odd - nice chat with a Leeds supporter afterwards who’d bet on us to go down at 33-1! We agreed the Championship is more fun than the Premier League.

Had a stinking cold for last two weeks so hardly run at all - planning a 13 miler along the Wharfe at Bolton Abbey tomorrow to see how I feel for 3 Forts in two weeks time.

Loads of decent long distance races if you want them, but the one I’d really recommend locally the most is the Lunar-tic from the nutters at Sussex Trail Events. It’s absolutely bloody brilliant. Three lap race from Shoreham, up the river to Bramber and down the other side, 8pm start so essentially a lap in daylight, torch on during lap 2 and lap 3 in the dark (hopefully moonlight). Aid station at each end and a lovely vibe. No time pressure (generous cut off) and usually hot food at the end. I’ll plod round with you if you’re scared of the dark, pairs of green eyes reflecting at you as you run from the long grass or falling in the fast flowing Adur [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

https://www.sussextrailevents.com/lunar-tic-marathon/

As for the Manor, definitely need a recovery week after [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Cheers all.

I'll have a think about all of it. I really want to do Beachy Head and will probably enter that soon-ish. As Dazzer says it would be good to keep my marathon fitness and spend some time trying to work out how to sort out these persistant cramp problems. I'm going to add the nerve flossing to my regular pre-hab routine. Lunar-tic sounds like a good one and certainly not put off by running in the dark, sounds fun. I am also aware that I need not to get dovorced though.

Exceptionally pleased that no one said "Worthing 10K" :lolol:

I was going to say the Worthing 10k but knew the response I’d get.

Saturday 23rd June is the Maverick East Sussex off road 23k starting near the Amex. I’ve heard good things about Maverick races so I entered a few months ago.
