I've been wiped out with a cold and haven't run for a week. It's really annoying, I've been in England since 4th November and I was really enjoying doing some runs in Mid Sussex and a great run in Bradford-on-Avon along the canal when I was visiting my Uncle and Auntie last week. This cold has somewhat floored me though. Sometimes I get a cold and can still go out for more gentle runs but not this time, my head is just full of congestion. A weekend of boozing probably didn't help matters.

I was hoping I would be able to get to my first Parkrun on Saturday but that's looking somewhat unlikely. I definitely don't want to make myself feel worse for my flight back on Sunday.

Anyone know if there is a good definitive list of running events somewhere? There seem to be loads of websites like 'letsdothis', but it's a pain having to trawl through them.
In particular, I'm doing the Chevin Chase on Boxing Day and the Brown Willy Run on New Years Day but hoping there might be something in between these in Devon/Cornwall.
Annoyingly with Christmas and New Year being at the weekend, there are no parkruns etc, as far as I can tell.

I don't know of a definitive list. I tend to use https://www.runbritain.com/races which is quite comprehensive. I also use https://www.goodrunguide.co.uk/RaceDiary.asp?Month=12&Year=2021 as well as https://runabc.co.uk/

The latter has this - https://www.windingpaths.uk/final-countdown/ - which may be of interest.

If in doubt always try a few local running club websites - something like this

Thank you for this. There really is a lack between Christmas and New Year, which is odd as people are often at a loose end.
Would probably do the one in Ripon if I was staying in Yorkshire for the period.

It’s probably more from an organiser’s perspective……..easy enough to rock up, run and go home, less so to put a race together with all that entails. I know from the marathons I’ve helped with an average 4-5 hour running time translates into at least a 12 hour day for the RD and crew (without counting the pre race day admin).

Predictably, Phoenix have races on 3 consecutive days in the gap :lolol:

Bad luck with the snotty head Badger. If you improve be good for you to arrange a last minute meet up Parkrun. I won't be able to run but could arrange to be a volunteer.

out running
hey guys, how's the running going? I've had an enforced running break. I was out in Budapest for a week working on our big tv music awards show. Had intentions to get some jogging in out there along the river but no such luck as it was too full on.
Returned home to my three boys and then my wife testing positive so focused on looking after them. Thankfully it wasn't serious but I knew it'd be a minor miracle if I managed to avoid it too. And I didn't.
Been laid up in bed feeling pretty rotten but hopefully we'll get this flushed out in the next few days.
Looking forward to getting back out for some bopping along when I can. Have a good weekend of running.

Amberley Maverick for me tomorrow morning. 23km in what looks like ‘interesting’ weather. I think the running tights may have to make their seasonal debut for this one!

Snow, rain, 40mph wind, 1,000' climb in first 3 miles and Sussex countryside. I'm envious!

Just had a look at Strava and in 6 months I have run a paltry 67 miles. That included my worst 10K ever at the Phoenix where I had no build up but also managed a few fairly good Parkruns during that time.

Itching to get back. Currently doing dumbbell exercises standing on the one weak leg. Maintaning pain level at 3 and under. Feeling optimistic.

Back in Sussex
Confined to home with Covid, I'm running "lounge laps" to keep the run streak alive.

When (Covid-free) Mrs B is out with the dog, I shunt the furniture around a bit in the lounge diner to create the smallest running track in the world, and run around it. Lots. Having to negotiate a tight hairpin after every 9-10 strides makes for a different kind of challenge, but it's working me hard! I have no idea how accurate my watch is under these conditions - I set it to "Inside Run" so I guess it's acting as a pedometer and not using GPS, but I'll be over 50 miles for the week.

Can't wait for next Thursday and my own personal "Freedom Day"!

Fab to be back outside yesterday, taking a sunset run up to Cissbury Ring.

I've got a massive burst blister on the sole of my right foot, gained through the constant turning during my 10 days of lounge laps. I covered just short of 80 miles over the 10 days. Through a rough estimate, I reckon I did around 300 laps per run, so 600 tight turns, twice a day for 10 days!

It was quite sore on yesterday's run, so I'll need to cover it in plasters today to avoid a repeat.

Joined 240 other hardy souls on Worthing seafront today. Actually the wind was not as bad as I feared: 21.26/79.00% and a category win was a fair return. Hats off to anyone out running today.

Great running!

Having just come back from a loop of town, I'm not sure running east to west and vice versa was the main issue today, whereas running north from the front all the way back to Findon was horrific!

Great effort if you did 80miles indoors
