Had a crack at the King's Head Canter which is a lovely little 5K in deepest East Sussex (the equivalent to the Louisiana swampland to a coastal dweller like me). Lovely point-to-point run with a small field (250 ish) comprising of locals and some very good club runners in particular Arena 80. You even get free pint at the pub by the finish. But a hard little event - undulating and very, very hot - I spend most of the year moaning about the wind n Worthing but how we could have done with a breeze off the sea..

Not sure of my placing or time but I did see the back of Mr Gasson's shirt from a distance. I was approx. 22.38 which wasn't bad for the course and conditions but looks a bit shabby when (I think ) the course record was broken by a sub15.

They have a really nice little race within a race for locals. Teams of 3 and rather than finishing times the placings are determined by the combined AG scores. Never seen that before.

A very good time for course and in heatwave. I may be chasing Mr Gasson’s back at Peacehaven on Saturday, if he stays fit.

I am returned from my weekend away in Wellingborough and neighbouring towns! Kettering parkrun for me in a season's best 18:50, 69.03% AG. knocky1, if you wouldn't mind! I'm chasing down the Big Fella.

It's a good course, and they go off about 9:05 which is ideal timing for me personally! I didn't have the sort of warm up I wanted, but I ran the first mile in 6:01, second in 6:06 and then 6:15 for the third. Naturally, I've very happy with the pacing and surprised by the consistency. You start up hill, run the hill in the middle lap and then it leads you toward the finish line as well so I'm pretty pleased I was able to boom up there. It was enough for 6th, Northampton parkrun was off so the field was a bit bigger than usual - I was 5th in my previous visit in 19:20.

Sunday I piled into a 2 hour steady run which covered 14.5 miles (just under) around Wellingborough, I didn't really know where I was going and it shows on the map! Yesterday was a gentle 7 miler, including where they're thinking of starting a Wellingborough parkrun - the difficulty is that the park they're looking at is not much bigger than Queens Park - the course would be really complicated with a lot of turns and the potential for chaos from start to finish.

Too much food and too much cider slowed me down massively, but a glorious weekend away of warm weather training!

I always attempt jogging but due to becoming easily bored never manage to get into any routine. However a new gym is opening up round the corner for me which I intend to join. One of the classes it offers is a form of running club, where for an hour you run as a group (how far and at what pace I don't know). This has peaked my interest as I'm quite competitive and am hoping that having others around me should push me and give me some much needed extra motivation. Has anyone got any tips on running club type things if anyone has ever been in one? What to expect etc?

Give it a go - you might find the company far more motivating than running on your own - def worked for me in the early days. Any decent club will make sure there is a pace that suits everyone (suspect you'll split into smaller groups) and that no-one is left behind. Club I was in always had a 'turn back' policy regardless of group - the faster people would crack on, reach a certain point and then go back, to the back of the group, and continue until everyone reached the checkpoint. Faster runners obviously end up running further as a result which is fine.

I’m contemplating a late entry for the Littlehampton road 10k. I’ve run it the past two years and it’s a nice, flat course if there isn’t much wind. Anyone else from NSC entering for our favourite distance and terrain?

Anyone who has Steve Carrell as an avatar has real potential for greatness. It's infectious, this running lark - go along, and enjoy!

Definitely a no from me, but Arena 80 AC 10k will be a go - if the Leicester marathon hasn't killed me two weeks beforehand. I doubt I'll be competitive, but I'll certainly be keen.

I'll be at the Isle of Purbeck running festival taking on the 16 mile (ish) run in September in prep for the Beachy Head M in October. A first time for both and they look pretty daunting!

I probably will (got to really as I live on the route). I am a pretty casual runner but just done the Arundel 10k and getting regular at the LA seafront Park Run. I think entries close on the 4th...

Never been in one myself, but I've heard almost entirely positive feedback from people who are members of a club. It sounds like it would give you focus and a purpose for running, which we all need sometimes. I would also suggest either getting to a parkrun if there is one near you or entering a race to give you something to focus on and train towards.

I'm also contemplating it. However, I'll be WAAAAAY behind you...

Some great not so young runners in that front bunch. Competitive run.

Not sure if it’s our man in form.

Some terrifyingly quick runners in those pics when I look at some of those being left behind whom I would regard as super quick!

Continued my recuperation with a steady 20 km this afternoon. Fairly happy as i’d already done a five mile hike earlier in the day, the run included 250m of climbing and started at an altitude of 1300m all of which must help - right?!
Knee still swelling up but not painful so I think it’s a matter of balancing the RICE with the need to do a couple more long runs before Warsaw in just over four weeks. Hopefully the knee will settle down during the taper.

Yes it's me. Kept in touch for the first 6 or 7 laps then started to slip. A late burst on the final lap got me within two seconds of next to last but alas the wooden spoon it was.

A very good learning experience!

Few of those have run for England. Impressive local talent you ran with. Wish I was 20 years younger and could run behind that lot.

Did they have B and C races? Otherwise my plans to do it next year are scuppered.

4 races. The results are on Run Britain. The final race was around 20 minutes for the winner and you would have been mid pack easily based on times.

If anyone fancies a chance to run a mile race there is a magic mile event every last Wednesday of the month a Preston park 18:30 on a Wednesday. 2 races based on times. Around 32 runners across the 2 races and a good workout. Final one of the year is September. It comes back again in March.

OK I’ll be on the D list.

I've never been interested in track running, but the more big nuts posts about his adventures, the more interested I become. It's definitely my intention to go for the 1 mile race at the end of September - try and open up a little bit knowing it's all on the line.

Not sure which parkrun I'll be at tomorrow, I've been a bit sluggish this week throughout life generally as well as running. Yesterday's planned 10 miler didn't happen, I'll be doing that today instead which probably won't be beneficial to my 5k time tomorrow. I'd like to go sub-19 again and try to reel in that place in the table - but it feels a bit unlikely at the moment.
