I use a camelback rather than a belt. Amazed how comfortable and light it is and I really don’t notice it while running. Best thing is it’s so easy to take sips from as you go. Cotswold Camping on Western Rd have a good selection. Evans Cycles was also good but they seem to generally be carrying lower stocks of everything now.
Sweatshop usually have Shotblocks - personally I like these long with Gu gels but it’s definitely down to personal preference.

Ditched Camelbak a long time ago.......contents heat up way too quickly......waist belt with 2-3 300ml bottles for me

I did the Hove Park parkrun in 22:19 this morning, parkrun #98. I then did 5 miles in 39:15, various trails around Hove Park, up and down the paths. Then I did the full parkrun course again, 21:08. It was more like an obstacle course though, people all over the path. It was a good session, 11.2 miles in total and up to 42.7 miles for the week ahead of tomorrow's 2 hour run.

Just to add to what’s been a rather good day so far, I bagged an SB 21:42/ AG 69.05% and second in age category on a very windy Hove Prom this morning.
Also managed to finish in front of Emily Proto - OK she was pacing 22 mins and i’d shamelessly used her as a wind shield for half the run while she effortlessly jogged along!

Well it wasn't Knocky1's morning unlike my namesake's afternoon. What a strike!
I sat in behind Simgull but my legs were heavy, heavy, heavy. I put in a lot of effort but couldn't catch him and eventually came in 14 seconds behind him and Emily Proto.
I never did like 5Ks looking forward to the 18 mile plod to Worthing tomorrow morning into a 40 MPH headwind.............

As has been discussed on Strava my 18 mile plod to Worthing is DONE. That wind is bloody useful on the way home.

The wind is absolutely savage - there were times that I really felt like I wasn't going anywhere running west along Hove Promenade. The first 3 miles were into the wind running up toward the Devils Dyke and then turned to come back. I felt pretty slaughtered already but knew at some point I'd have another westbound jaunt. I binned it early and headed up Grand Avenue back toward the relative comfort of Hove Rec and then Hove Park. Such a toughie this morning but its out of the way and done now.

Conditions today were as tough as I can remember. Reminiscent of the Mince Pie 10 two years ago.

My pre determined route made sure I experienced the absolute worst. 7.75 miles out with the wind before the same back right along the cliff edge from Newhaven to the marina.

At times it felt like you were being blown backwards and a sense of humour was a must homeward bound with no let up for 75 minutes+ of running.

Still enjoyable and good prep for Hastings in two weeks. Good to see some serious mileage from the NSC runners today.

On NSC for over two decades...
Yes, I was just thinking that. Good effort everyone in challenging conditions.

I trotted around the Surrey Half as best I could but will need a couple of weeks off now to recover... I was some half an hour away from bothering my pb. Glad I made it considering where I was at the start of the year - but I DO need to lose weight as my joints took an absolute pasting today!

I managed to avoid the worst of the wind on my 20 miler today. I was mostly running south but very aware of the cross wind pushing then pulling me along. Only got a small taste of running into it along the seafront and have to admire anyone brave enough to set out into that.

Glad to read all your comments on the wind. I just ran 9 miles into it along the seafront from Hove to Worthing. Those 11" miles killed me and it was hard to take advantage of the wind on the turn around. Still got a taste of how I always feel at 18 miles in a marathon and wondered why I'm doing one again.

I concur with all the comments about the wind - did a 16 miler out and back today, partly on the undercliff (Marina to Saltdean), and partly off-road (Telscombe Tye, yellow-brick road, South Downs Way). One of the hardest runs I've ever run - into the wind (whether on the flat or on hills) it was virtually impossible to move at times, and on the off-road section I had the wind from the side a lot of the time making it really hard not to run into fences and ditches. And the downhill bits with wind behind was close to being scary, leaning back into the wind and feeling as if I was about to lift off!
I'm completely done in.

Yeah, but breezy out. All was going on my 10-miler up the riverbank and up Beeding Hill (managed to run it all) and then I turned around just past the Youth Hostel [emoji50]

I normally get a bit of respite from the hills and some decent speed on the home leg, but not today. Other than that, nice day for it!

Absolutely ridiculous 19.5 miles this morning- up the Adur and then west into the wind up to Chanctonbury before mercifully having the wind behind us as we turned south towards Cissbury and back along the Downland Devil courseto the river. Possibly the hardest run I’ve ever done - the infamous 2017 Mince Pie was mentioned more than once big nuts - I thought this was worse!
Still, it’s done and will be a good one to think about when on the starting line at a marathon.
Oh yeah and then we got to the cafe only to be told the kitchen was shut - I’d been so looking forward to that bacon sandwich!!!
knocky1 next time you update the table please amend my time from yesterday to 21:42. And if the NSC team will have me I’m up for the quiz on Wednesday!

LOL - wind. Drove to Southend for the Pier Marathon to be greeted by 50mph winds and two giant wheelie-bins careering down the road. Despite assurances from the council last night that it could go ahead, it was obvious it couldn’t. STE then tried to organise a run on the prom, but were told they couldn’t have permission......so I drove home.

Wind was so bad the QE Bridge was closed, so there was 10-15 miles of stationary traffic backed up on the M25. I decided to get home via London/Blackwall Tunnel instead.

Happy days [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

What an horrendous day! You have my sympathy.

A group us of once drove up to Halifax midweek only for the game to be called off 15 minutes before kick off. Probably the nearest to your frustration I can think of.

I'll do the table tomorrow. Apologies.
The quiz uptake is going very well. It is 4 to a team so we have dazzer6666 big nuts Ninja Elephant and Guinness Boy as the team.
So we need a few more volunteers for Wednesday the 20th March, or the top team divides by friends/family being invited, Mr Blobby may need someone in his team, or ben Elton's brother may join us and need a team member or you bring a team along. Quite a few possibilities, we'll see what happens........

Getting to that time where I'll be investing a new pair of running shoes soon. My God, these sports company's are really making hay out of the running boom. Just seen these new Asics Metaride's online for 224.00 quid!

I'd love to be able to buy the trainers that suit me best, (Nike Pegasus) but even those are changed all the time, with a "nth" generation, which adds more on the price.

I generally browse all the sites looking for any that suit me in a sale, as I'm really loathe to go over 100.00 quid for a pair. Yes I know you get what you pay for, but these company's are really taking the p**s.

I need a neutral cushioned shoe, as had several calf injuries down the years. Going well right now, (touches wood) & enjoying a long injury free period.
