BBC News - Albion's Falmer stadium corporate boxes snapped up

All the corporate boxes at Brighton and Hove Albion's new stadium at Falmer have now been sold, according to the football club.

Work on the construction of the 22,500-seater ground, is due to be completed in September 2011 at a cost of £93m.

The club said its 14 corporate boxes had been snapped up, as well as about half of its 2,500 luxury seats.

Brighton and Hove Albion have been without a stadium since their former home closed in 1997 and was then sold.

The initial planning application for stadium on land north of Village Way, in Falmer, was submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council in 2001.

It was accepted by the government in July 2007 after a High Court challenge and two public inquiries.

Fans of the Seagulls, including DJ Norman Cook - aka Fatboy Slim - attended an official "kick-off" ceremony at the site in Falmer when construction work began in December 2008.

Isn't the stadium completion date May 2011?

Yes. Poor old BBC Sussex are having an away day at Falmer and cannot quite make their mind up as to whether Falmer opens in 2011 or 2012 or in May or August.

So in case they read this, the stadium should be completed as a building on
31st May next year, then it should be handed over to the club so they can get it ready for the first match in August 2011..

I thought it was meant to be completed by the middle of this coming season (and it was decided to move in at the start of the follwoing season instead of in the middle of one)

Initially December 2010 but what's the point in "busting a gut" to complete by then if you can't move in - ie still at Withdean and the club offices in North Road? You'll also have all the stadium overheads/running costs for an additional 5 months.

They did say they'd move all the club offices to Falmer almost as soon as they took over the site. What happened to that?
