Runners! Where to get gait analysis in Brighton

Right, I'm starting to get discomfort and pains in my shins & ankles during runs (and I always stretch and warm up properly) - I've never had my gait done before and have just used standard running shoes, but the time has now come to get some new trainers and I thought I should get the gait done at the same time.

I've googled a couple of places but they seem to want £75-£100 to do the analysis on a treadmill, but I know that some specialised sports shops are able to do it for you for free (well, if you buy some trainers course). I'm aware of the technique of wetting your foot and standing on some paper but I'd rather go the treadmill route if possible ;)

So, is there anywhere local that might do gait analysis and not charge me the thick end of £100?!

I had similar problems and went to see a specialist beacuse I wanted it sorted properly. I went to see Helen Morrel at the addy below. Thoroughly professional, and I thoroughly recommend you going. She also looks after several members of Sussex CCC so she must be good !

Brighton Podiatry - Where every step counts.

Looks good mate, but I can't afford that kind of cost on top of a new pair of trainers at the moment!

'Run' along Blatchington Road do a free service where they get you to jog up and down the road whilst filming you to check your gait. From the playback, they analyse your foot movements and from that they determine wether you over or under pronate then advise you on the best trainers for you. They seemed to know what they were talking about and I have not had any problems since I bought my trainers there 10 months ago..

Got a pair of shoes from Up & Running in Horsham a few months ago, they were very good and looked at how I ran etc before deciding what would be best for me. I think if you part with a bit of cash (what they did for me was just standard part of the service for everyone) they do the whole video analysis and all that and will sort you out.

I second this lady. She worked wonders with an injury I had and which numerous other specialists failed to address for over a year.

I'm pretty sure The Jog Shop ~ Home do a similar service.

Video Gait Analysis in Brighton

I visited StrideUK in Brighton, they do a full body analysis of you running, they film 360 degrees, head to toe, provide you with a full training program and list of suitable trainers for training, trial and racing. I had an ITband problem, saw their details in runners world mag. Sorted it out perfectly. Beachy head marathon this weekend, hope weather remains this good. Aiming for a 3.20 finish.

Another vote for Brighton Podiatry. Have had flat feet for years with ankle, calf and back problems as a consequence. Set me back a couple of hundred quid for tailor-made orthotics but that's nothing compared to the amount I've wasted on massages etc to relieve the symptoms. A few weeks after seeing Helen Morrell, I can walk without any pain for the first time I can remember and taking up running finally looks like a realistic possibility.
