Stalin - in the Court of the Red Tsar. Reading it before we visit Russia in May.

About half way through, it is an utterly chilling portrait of a banal mass murderer. Although Beria was arguably even worse.

I would have thought any cheerleader for Communism would shut the **** up after reading it.

'The Club' - How the Premier League became the richest, most disruptive business in sport (by Jonathan Clegg).

Really good eye opener into the formation of the Premier league and some of the nefarious goings on.

Currently going through a Scandinavian period. Just finished "The Accidental Further Adventures of the Hundred-Year-Old Man" by Sweden's Jonas Jonasson (which I picked up because I'd just married a Jonas Jonasson, as it were).

Now I'm reading "The Thirst" by Norway's Jo Nesbo.

I think most people regard Jeffrey Archer as a huge nause. Prat. Git.

But to me he is also one of the very best story tellers that there is.

Currently reading Heads You Win on holiday in Sardinia

Amazingly that is the only title in English on the bookshelf here.
So I will be starting it tomorrow, and delighted it seems to be recommended...

'The places in between'. An account of Rory Stewart's journey across Afghanistan.

Just arrived today. Rory Stewart is an unheralded national treasure. I rather suspect his candidacy for prime minister will fail. Probably for the best. Firstly he's too nice and secondly he's not really a Tory anyway.
