Football Kit on its way to Africa

Mrs Coach

aka Jesus H. Woman
What a beautiful picture on page 2 of the Argus (Thursday Mar 22) of Pila Nesi, from the African village, and two of the Meridian Athletic JFC children (lil' coaches school friends.)
(Laurie, get your hair cut, boy! lol!)

A football team has replaced a donated kit that was lost in a storm at sea.
Peacehaven based Meridian Athletic Under 7's had sent the kit to a school in Africa that plays in the same colours.
But the donation was stolen by beach-combers after the MSC Napoli cargo ship was beached off the Devon coast.

Now, after an appeal in the Argus, the club has got hold of two old kits from ex-players, a new strip and much more.

Naomi Bos from the club thanked those who donated items, including the Robert Eaton Memorial Fund, set up in memory of a football fan killed in the September 11 attacks and players relatives.

The kit will be taken to South Africa by Pila Nesi, who is from the village where the school plays. Naomi said "Pila says the children have never had a kit before"

The club has also sent jackets, stationery, football boots and balls.

Of course, Telscombe Gull's son plays for MA JFC, and the collection in his memory went to the REMF. What a lovely tribute to him and what a weird circle of co-incidence! Well done MA JFC and the REMF. It's lovely that the children were aware of helping those less fortunate than themselves.

When I'm feeling a bit better and up out of bed, I'll scan the photo and add it to this thread - unless anyone else can do it first? Cheers.
