It is hilarious, you are right. If only western democracy could move so fast and so decisively. If only we had some heavily armed "Defenders of The people " to encourage and help our voters make the correct voting decision.
Looks like The Crimea has voted to become part of Russia with at least 90% of the turnout of 110% voting to join. The official application to join will take place on Monday and the votes will be counted from Tuesday onwards. Gotta love Russian democracy !
Its amazing how the Russians, sorry,Putin, can do pretty much as he pleases. Obama is a laughing stock and the UN is a complete waste of space. I read yesterday that two prominent Ukrainian anti Russian leaders were arrested by Russian " security " men and have disappeared. They may come up with...
Ok everyone, stand down. Apparently Crimea is now officially part of Russia according to the new Crimean government, the votes to confirm this are being printed now with this result which will be confirmed in 10 days. That went well then ?
It can only be symbolic as US ships will not be allowed to actively support Ukraine if the shooting starts.
I just heard that the newly coalesced " Crimea " has asked Russia to be allowed to join it, with a referendum on the issue to follow in 10 days. It's amazing how fast democracy can work...
TBH that would be fairly pointless as the Russians could blow it out of the water at will and one ship really isn't going to worry Putin. It was incredible to see the level of intimidation that the " Self Defence Forces " are able to get away with. Ukrainian Navy ships, tied up in their own...
The article is good " Old Time " communist rhetoric, almost in the same mould as the official output of North Korea. As for it's opinions on democracy and " counter-revolutionary overthrows ", I'm minded by Terry Pratchett, especially the character of The Patrician of Ankh-Morpork in his...
It was incredibly brave or foolhardy for those unarmed Ukrainian troops to march up to their base and confront the armed " peace keeping " units firing over their heads, who had illegally taken their base.
It maybe that he has proved his point. He can intimidate Ukraine to the point of war and do pretty much as he likes in Crimea and is able to rouse Russian " Self Defence " forces when necessary in order to blockade strategic buildings and sites in East Ukraine. Putin has also shown that the West...
Just seen a statement from Obama posted on the BBC news page, he does not have a clue frankly. He looks like a man without an idea or a plan, it does not bode well, Putin is controlling the whole thing and knows he is fireproof.
Here we go, could be bad by morning...
No doubt a few of the foil heads will believe that this is a perfectly acceptable request.
"Ukraine's ousted President Yanukovych has asked Russia to use military force in Ukraine - Russia's UN envoy "
Well in that case, I'm right behind Putin's bid to shore up the Ukraine and prevent further bloodshed. Surrounding enemy Ukrainian navy and army barracks provocatively sited in Ukraine, and demanding the surrender of these illegitimate forces by threat of force is the only way to achieve this...
This really is a return to old Russian values and ideals
Mark Lowen BBC News, Crimea tweets: Russian organisation head in #Sevastopol tells me Moscow must intervene because of "genocide" vs Russians in Kiev. "We've prevented it here"
There is no threat of " Genocide " in this crisis, merely...
