Strangely I've probably committed all of these offences at some point whilst driving, and yet nothing ever came of any of it. The vast majority of the time drivers get away with it - why do you see so many people slowing down for speed cameras?!
All the cycling offences can be, and are dealt...
There's no need to argue. All the cyclists on here know they'll come off worse in almost every collision. Nobody has said otherwise. People have generally stated what the law/highway code currently is.
There's no compulsion for cyclists to use cycle lanes. The provision of cycle lanes does not make the use of the main carriageway by a cyclist illegal, or against the highway code.
Drivers of cars may use bus lanes if it is outside of the operational times - there'll be a blue sign to tell you...
If you're so unhappy about the laws in this country CONTACT YOUR MP AND TELL THEM TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
As a driver and cyclist I will continue to use the road legally. I will pay VED for my car and have it MOT'd annually. I'll ensure that everyone who uses it is insured to do so. I'll not...
The difference is that VED is a tax that allows you to keep a motor vehicle on the road. That's it. It isn't a little card that gives you any right to use the road at all. It's the same as any other tax - you pay it or get prosecuted for non-payment. I'd be more than happy for you not to pay it...
Yesterday I saw a scooter using a cycles-only lane across a pavement. I've had cars overtake me as I'm stopping for a red light on a bike and drive through it (on solid red). I see all sorts of road users do illegal, dangerous and stupid things every day.
I suggest you contact your MP to ensure...
It should - but blaming cyclists for this not happening won't change the situation. Contact your MP, councillors and the police until they enforce the law correctly. Also ask them to give penalty notices to drivers in ASLs and breaking the 20mph speed limits too.
It's about creating an "us and them" world. Us = good, them = bad. People tend not to group themselves with people they dislike for fairly irrational reasons. We all know there are many drivers who speed, jump red lights, aren't taxed or insured, etc but we can't hate 'drivers' as we'd have to...
