I would say that the club took their eye "horribly off the ball" in the 2014 January transfer window. That started the domino effect and we didn’t recover. Instead of adding to the squad with Oscar we have had to go through a total rebuild with a demoralised and quickly patched up squad.
But...
I agree. Actually having a manager is a good start, and although I have my doubts about him I will still have hope, especially if we get a few Kayal type signings over the summer.
There are downsides to having a reputation for too much caution. Experienced quality players especially strikers will be more attracted to sign for attacking teams. Practicing caution doesn’t help when you need the win and 1-0 down, and that is where Poyet failed when we didn’t score one goal in...
Nothing ventured nothing gained and that decision rings alarm bells to me. I knew Hughton was cautious but I am now concerned at how cautious he will be. The incident in itself is not that relevant but the message he sent out is.
It was a tongue in cheek comment in response to andy1980 saying that Hughton was saving him from Brighton fans (being cruel) and writing that he isn't ready.
I believe now and at the time that he should have got at least 10 mins and a chance to kick the ball, especially after hearing Millwall...
Do you really think that NSC would be critical of a young lad in a nothing game? Even the biggest offenders on here wouldn't do that. What if Walton let in a howler would the fans turn on him? I think you are being a bit over sensitive on his behalf.
If the club is going to sign experienced strikers, he won't even get on the bench next season. Now his mates will probably tease him with 10 second Tilley puns over the summer .
Best thing to do is lower your expectations because next season we will be a country mile off the Championship as well. Bristol City and MK Dons are more prepared for next season than we are. Even with new players coming in it will take a few months to "gel". The Championship is about pace...
Yep, that decision swung my view and leaves more questions than answers and there were negatives on many levels because of it. Hughton said that if he brought him on earlier and we lost the game it wouldn't be nice for the lad  Daft reasoning in my eyes, it's not as if it was a crucial...
