I think the Old Shoreham Road cycle lane was a bit of a design overkill. Sure it was good to make it cycle friendly, but just a painted cycle lane would have would have done the job and they could have extended it further for less than the cost of the half mile that was constructed.
An ice rink makes a profit of £0.5m a year so by itself it wouldn't cover a new state of the art leisure centre, but there is a bigger picture if peoples minds are tuned into it. In the meantime whilst the site remains derelict and will do for many years, it is generating zero income and not...
brighton bluenose & The Great Gatsbt, I’m not offended by your responses to me, but now I have replied do I not even get a “fair enough” comment from you both?
What stopped the Greens from embracing an ice skating facility at the King Alfred which would have been of a size on which ice hockey could have been played and other ice sports and competitions?
It was looked at by a structural engineers and deemed structurally safe.
"Jon Orrell, of Hemsley Orrell Partnership, carried out the inspection and said the area is currently supporting about 350mm of earth, which would weigh more than the proposed rink."

2. Explain to us all where the finance is coming from for a 'state of the art leisure centre' because, unless you haven't noticed, the council sure has hell hasn't got it?!
First off a little imagination would do. Maybe generate another sporting activity above the...
Not really, it wouldn't have achieved a national sports standard with a 25m pool, no diving facilities, and play pool. The current policy is for exactly the same, but instead of 850 residential units it is 450.
The biggest problem with the council is that it may change from party to party on...
We have always attracted transients, it's like Ibiza in the summer, people come here for a weekend or for the festivals and end up staying here for longer. The Greens only see the city this way and have no interest in important amenities for the local tax payer.
Getting a grant to upgrade a park is only a standard achievement that any council would have done.
What about something more committing like setting a standard for the King Alfred rather than trying to squeeze 450 residential units on the site in the new policy. They are quite happy to jump on...
No they don't listen to tax payers, and they used the tree as a publicity stunt, any other party would have done the same. It was pleasant, safe, story that had no comeback which makes it have the impression that they are listening to the public. They don't want to listen to really important...
The Lewes Road and 20mph zones were already being planned before they came in, so contrary to them claiming it for themselves it doesn’t have much to do with them.
There are many other things they have failed with one being not turning their attention to a state of the art leisure centre for...
