I am not saying I think a kid being abused is specifically bothered about an 80's darts player's opinion about their plight. Of course I'm not. I do think it important to create a climate where disclosure is welcomed and publicly questioning attitudes like Bristow's goes some way to doing this...
The problem isn't really that he thinks that they should have sorted the perpetrators out. I'm sure most of the survivors think that (which makes this all the more pernicious.)
The problem is that he called survivors of child sexual abuse wimps for not doing it on order to make some...
Getting kids to speak out and Bristow talking this rubbish don't exist in isolation. That's my point.
If you want people to talk out about CSA then, people have to feel comfortable that attitudes like Bristow's aren't a majority perspective. For someone to just say it's 'not a problem.' is...
What Bristow has said, has undoubtedly caused suffering to the survivors of child sexual abuse in football (both those who have waived their right to anonymity and those that haven't even reported it yet.) and likely beyond.
Is that not a problem?
Not really. This was your response to someone who said they 'can't see what the problem is.'
There's a lot of excuses being made there. I don't 'get what he is trying to say.' I wouldn't have nodded my head at someone talking such crap. As for the 'PC hounds,' this isn't your Grandad saying...
I'm not sure what you are trying to illustrate to me.
The media are focusing on the cases. They are also focusing on what Bristow said, as they should. It is possible to have the two strands of the story running in parallel. I'm not sure anyone on this thread has said "Can we stop focusing on...
Outside of this particular issue, can you think of another specific example of personal and financial sanctions resulting from people airing views against the status quo, where you feel that person/ those people has got the thin end of the wedge?
Of course he's entitled to his own opinion. When it's vile, people are allowed to tell him so.
As far as I can see that's what has happened. I don't get the people trying to turn this into a freedom of speech thing. He has quite rightly been castigated for saying a reprehensible thing, which...
Eric, may I be the first to say what an honour it is to have a 5 time world champion on these humble boards. Forget all this rubbish from the leftards on here, it's just political correctness gone mad.
Have we seen that Bristow's manager asked for £5,000 (+VAT) to be interviewed by the BBC about this?

It's not 'old school' to have no empathy with survivors of child sexual abuse. It's callous.
Yeah, perhaps social media can make a mountain out of a molehill sometimes but this isn't 'political correctness gone mad,' it's totally vile. Nobody forced Bristow to put it out there, he could have...
Has it occurred to you why it might take the victims of child abuse, decades to speak out?
During which time hundreds, possibly thousands more children were abused by the same people. If you think there's nothing wrong with Bristow's comments then you are on the side of the abuser.
Are you...
