F*** me!
This would be the all time greatest management decision in any sport ever, if it came off. I as one of KP's staunchest defenders would say the fact that you are considering only demonstrates the paucity of options we have available to us.
He was hardly a roaring success in his first...
I'm with you - it's no time to be chucking people in for the sake of it. Give these guys the time to sort it out. I'm not sure we'll lose 5-0 either, Melbourne and especially Sydney are normally kind to us.
Rule no.1 of modern cricket. The captain MUST be worth his place in the team on merit regardless of his cricket brain.
I think it's the coach who's going to be the fall guy here. Giles is being groomed. Flower's had a great run and we have plenty to be grateful to him for but I think it's the...
Sensible posting. The Aussie's have bowled well to Cook all summer and so far this winter. They've forced him to face his weakness, which is as you say knowing what to leave in the "corridor of uncertainty." With the bat he'll work it out I'm sure. Beyond any shadow of a doubt, he's the best...
Fair point, think I got the wrong end of the stick - my suspicion is they really don't like the short stuff and they think that their way out of it is to dominate. I think that's counter productive as it gives the bowler hope. As you say, leave them alone, it takes a lot of effort to bowl...
I'm an England optimist and I wouldn't even think about picking us for Perth even if we are in good form. It's probably worse than the Gabba for us.
The last 2 tests are at much better venues for us, you'll also have the advantage that if we get thumped again the odds on an England test victory...
Look at Johnson prior to those 3 years though. He was the number 1 ranked bowler in the world, he broke Graham Smith's hand, he's just rediscovered his mojo.
I'll ask you the question as well. There's no use knee jerking - who are you replacing Cook, as captain with? It was only a year ago, he was leading these players to our first series victory in India in generations AFTER we gifted the first test to them.
Are you seriously advocating dropping...
Who should be then?
Carberry - No
Root - Too early
Pietersen - Been there
Bell - Little experience, don't really see him as a leader of men.
Prior - Place in doubt
Broad - Maybe. Too hotheaded for Test captaincy I would say
Swann - I think he's retiring after this series
Anderson - Maybe
Sooooooooo, another failed attempt to play an extra bowler. Can those of you repeatedly asking for it to happen stop now please? Because outside of the sub continent we've been woeful every time we've tried it since Flintoff retired (and a fair amount of the time before he retired.)
Team for...
Yes, England haven't been up to much but you don't see genuine pace bowling like this very often these days. He's beat proper batsmen for pace repeatedly. Hats off.
