Love that place, proper pub, I was in there before a gig at the Concorde the other night for the first time in years. It was amazingly familiar, good times
What was the one just down the road from the Spreadgeagle that's shut now? The Lion & Unicorn? I nearly got glassed for winning a game of darts in there. I was seriously lucky to be fair and he was steaming.
I was refering to the clientele more than the venue, I always thought there were anumber of wannbee gangster types in there & failed/aspiring Kemp Town Luvvies. To be fair I'm talking around 7 years ago when I used to live in that neck of the woods, it may well have changed.
Ok - comparitively isn't full of idiots, compared to other pubs/clubs open that late. It also used to be quite a good pulling place but I wouldn't know about that any more!
Hellfire you are good at this, it became my local for a while and it really isn't a nice place. Really pretensious, a certain ex Fast Show cast memeber is normally in there sounding off about something or other and he's a deeply unlikeable man.
That'll do it. I will say I've been there on a Saturday afternoon on occassion & sometimes encountered some who I suspect had been up all night, desperate for a bit of trouble/ attention but in the main I'm very fond of the place.
Wow, I forgot that place even existed an ex of mine used to work there many moons ago & you do a very good job of summing up what I thought about the place. You forget to mention the option to get a dog meat kebab on the way out.
Not sure I get the hate for Lion & Lobster though. I get that it...
It's a shame the Spreadeagle has closed now, that used to be my stock response.
Bat & Ball, Hollingbury, Stamner Park Tavern & Seafield are all up there for me.
The Whistle Stop used to be my work local, it was ok I guess. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to go there.
