    Believe it or not some LED TVs have banding and clouding issues from new. Some TVs which are returned to retailers by unhappy customers asking for a replacement set are actually sold again to an unsuspecting punter instead of being sent back to be refurbed.

    Plasma is a dodo. There are still residual stocks of Plasma TVs knocking about which can be snaffled up at knock down prices. Could be a stop gap until 4k OLED prices are at sensible levels in about four years time.

    As long as the TV can do HEVC (H.265) it will process a 4k signal. Some manufacturers have issued firmware updates for models that couldn't handle HEVC at the time they rolled off the production line in 2012 and 2013.

    The announcement on the new models for 2015 is normally made by the leading manufacturers at CES in Vegas at the beginning of January. Prices will drop as the retailers will want to clear as much existing stock in readiness for the first of the new models hitting the stores mid year.

    OLED is the true successor to plasma. LED is a misnomer , basically you're buying a LCD TV with LED around the edges or in a matrix pattern across the screen.

    Production has ceased in the Far East but there are still residual stocks. For AV purists a calibrated plasma TV still wins hands down on picture quality compared side by side with a top of the range LED TV.
