    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

The first 4 minutes of Davydov's vlog are interesting. Seems that Ukrainian boat drones got into (the highly protected...) Sevastopol harbour, although they didn't find a juicy target...this time. Also, some video evidence of one of these boat drones having anti aircraft missiles (?) mounted on...

Yes, good point, Europe clearly acting in concert on this. The only thing that's halted the development of Russia is of course Putin's war and domestic restrictions. Although by 'development' he probably means 'expansion by invasion'.

Scholz is a funny mix: appeasing statements sometimes, then happy to be the guy making this announcement.

It's good that Cameron said it. Macron told the Economist last week that he doesn't rule out French boots on the ground if Russia make a breakthrough at the front...and if Ukraine requests help.

Zeihan's quite knowledgeable, isn't he? I'd never have thought of that 'backed up ' problem.

Indeed. I wonder how their oil producers will be affected? Maybe not as much, but they have both reduced/changed markets and refinery attacks to deal with.

Sanctions give Gazprom its first loss in 20 years. Clearly it's not that easy to divert sales to India, China...

It's interesting to understand that there are spotter drones (from both sides) flying behind lines looking for suitable targets. Maybe some areas are obvious searches (known airfields etc) plus maybe some intel from local partisans. It's all very targeted 👍.

I assume he's getting his reports from Telegram and possibly the Ukrainian survey drone that was above.

I'd hope you're right...but I suspect most of them are too entrenched in propaganda or fearful to be cynical of their state yet. But yes, sticking country of origin flags on each piece of equipment does seem particularly childish and desperate!

If a drone, then poor air defence 👍 as you suggested. If just local incompetence...then great too!
