[Football] Trials to shorten football matches to 60 minutes with ball-in-play time keeping

ummmm.....American football is RENOWNED for running down the clock. It's a tactic. Apart from the stop/start element, our game would be nothing like american football. In fact, this move, if anything, is moving us further away from the time wasting element of american football.

[Football] Trials to shorten football matches to 60 minutes with ball-in-play time keeping

What's the laws on how long a throw in, goal kick and corner should take? Or the law on how long it should take for a free kick to be taken after the foul has occurred? All things a winning team can extend if they wish.

10 minutes each way with the same stop/start system. 2/3 of the time currently used (same as 60 mins compared to 90 mins)

[Football] Trials to shorten football matches to 60 minutes with ball-in-play time keeping

I would put it this way, to those who seem to think this would be more complicated. Imagine football was currently played with the stop/start clock. Ball not in play? Clock stopped. Then Fifa announce: "we are actually thinking of changing how we play football. So we are going to extend the...

Stops when the ball is dead. (out of play or a foul has been committed) Restarts when the ball is kicked/thrown. None of this would happen. The clock wouldn't have restarted in any of those situations.

That's not time wasting. The clock would be stopped.

On average, over 40 throw ins per game. Let's say they take on average 10 seconds (and that's a VERY conservative estimate in my opinion). Over 6 minutes of watching players holding the ball above their head.

[Football] Trials to shorten football matches to 60 minutes with ball-in-play time keeping

A quick google has shown me that on average, a corner kick takes around 45 seconds. On average there are 11 corners per PL game. So that's over 8 minutes spent waiting for corners to be taken. On average there are 17 goal kicks per PL game. 30 seconds average per goal kick. So thats another 8...

[Football] Trials to shorten football matches to 60 minutes with ball-in-play time keeping

I think you'd be shocked by the time it takes for a goal kick to take place after the initial effort. By the time the keeper gets the ball, the players set up into position and the ball is struck it is a suprisingly long amount of time without feeling that any timewasting is going on. I've...
