All the angst we are going through just demonstrates what a hollowed out shell of an experience the ESL would be. Imagine any of our Premier League seasons without relegation. They’d have all been effectively meaningless from late October.
I’m feeling a bit bedwetty now. Nothing to do with our performances. It’s just the absurdly jammy way Newcastle and Fulham have bagged three points (at time of writing) makes me fear the football gods have simply decided we’re for the chop.

Could really have done with the Blades getting something from tonight. Then they’d really have had to come onto us next week while remaining a bag of nerves. What odds them putting in a lovely, free-flowing performance now there’s nothing riding on it?
Will have to hope they’re just bad.
Our record at The Bridge suggests otherwise but there’s a chance they might just have their head turned by the Champions’ League. Glass half full indeed. We could get something out of this match.
I imagine it’s possible. I’m afraid I begin every season with a “virtual bottom three” in mind. The first target is to get comfortably above the dotted line of doom. The second is to get to 40 points. The third is to move as high up the table as possible.
