The last bit isn't correct, he actually served in the Trenches in 1915 as a Colonel in the Royal Scots Fusiliers. Although he didn't take part in any of the big battles he went out into No Mans Land on patrol around 30 times. Certainly a PM who knew a lot more about war at the sharp end...
