Ah, I thought the OP meant using the stop cock as an earth (which you could have done in the days of lead) rather than bonding.- happypig

I imagine that as the feed in to the house is likely to be polyethylene, then the plumber is right. I wouldn't trust an earth wired to a stop cock.- happypig
