The red and yellow cards are simply a means of identifying to onlookers that a player has been cautioned or sent off. If a referee loses his card mid-match, it doesn't mean he can't send a player from the field. Likewise, there is nothing whatsoever in the Laws about having a notebook. Referees...
That's up to you. But it will be a futile protest, as the only outcome will be the County FA banning him from playing for any registered team until the appropriate fine is settled.
He's the only one who, ultimately, will suffer here.
What's the gripe here: are you saying he shouldn't have been sent off? Or that they should both have been sent off? Or is it because he seems to have been sent off by somebody connected with the opposition?
