SUM(VALUE(LEFT($A$2:$A$4,LEN($A$2:$A$4)-(RIGHT($A$2:$A$4)="*")))) will work. Remember this is an array formula so you need to enter it with <ctrl>+<shift>+<enter>- eaglejez
