So to summarise the view from the members past and present of the rail industry: If I turn up for a train which is late or runs late, it is my fault and not the rail industry.
I agree about the overcrowded bit and the South East needs a major transport overhaul in the next 20 years but sadly some of us don't have a WFH option or have employers that share your admirably Buddhist approach to public transport.

I don't think anyone (or at least very few people) blame Southern for problems when there are genuine acts of nature like yesterday but anyone connected to Southern don't seem to appreciate that by default a train should leave on time and arrive on time.
Absolutely (trains are noticeably quicker when less busy) but at the moment the publish a timetable they have little or no chance of following so why not get a bit more realistic?
I used to catch a train from Clapham Junction to Woking that was invariably late, so why not timetable it later and...
Why don't Southern (or indeed any other TOC) just announce timetables that they are confident of keeping to?
For example my morning train should get into LB at 0811 but is generally ten minutes late, so why don't they just timetable it to arrive later at it's terminus and treat it as a bonus if...
