I'm in the states now and it's worse now. The tip suggestion starts at 18% ...up to 30%.
As I've said earlier workers at places like starbucks now expect tips and will push you at the counter to add when paying by card. I might be mistaken but I think I've seen tip options at the supermarket...
The states now have this unbelievable con at checkout at places like Starbucks where they ask if you want to give a tip. The tip usually starts at 20%....I had a hotdog on the side of the road the other day and they even tried to con a tip.
