A loan would have been one thing but for us to have an an outlay like that would have been one gamble too far.

I would rather have someone like him on loan and rotate with permanent players, rather than doing our usual £20m gamble on an unproven player in the Premier League. If another proven player comes available during the course of the season then jump into the market at that stage.

If the FAs of all the countries with black footballers (which is the majority) withdrew from tournaments until FIFA and UEFA have put in adequate controls, then it might put enough pressure on them to take action. It won't happen - so you could argue that the FAs are also culpable.
