Don’t think they can (there is an ‘associated persons’ rule’) - and the electronic surveillance screening picks up address matches (amongst other things) so would likely be identified (unless they were using a different address)...
This. If he gets less than a 6 month ban he’s very lucky. Must be some kind of complete moron to be betting on football over such a long period when the FA and clubs are so diligent on making sure all staff are aware of the rules.
Don’t disagree but this is down to the FA’s presuasion rather than the betting company’s moral standards…….
My pal who worked for one of the major sports betting companies left at the end of his contract as he couldn’t stand the way they prey on people.
Not within the game. Junior has had it absolutely drilled into him along with all other employees (he’s not a player), it’s in their contracts, there are posters up etc etc.
Bookies get electronic files of all people with contracts with professional football clubs and regularly screen them against their client lists (not just looking for name matches, but also addresses to pick up people using another name for example). When potentially matching data is identified...
Probably alerted to the investigation at that time, so stopped then (or carried on if he’s even more stupid than this makes him look, but the charge is only in relation to the period under investigation)

Agree re the warnings - but It’s not necessarily a case of grassing up, it’s much more sophisticated than that as the FA provides lists of all contracted staff in the pro or semi-pro game to the betting companies directly, which are then electronically screened against their active client lists...
