At least he doesn't have to resort to cheating to play well against England. Biggest punishment he got was being easily beaten by the South Africans when he did cheat.

That's a bit over the top. One indiscretion that was appropriately punished. At least he was trying to win the game. Cricket's biggest problem is the match fixing & spot betting.
And when Boycott went into his self imposed exile in the mid 70s, it just happened to be when Lillee & Thomson were in their prime. Probably would have been the only time I would have enjoyed watching him bat.
