We need to talk about Dale

What we're discussing is , can you see any clues for him signing a contract , being sold, or staying from Hughton picking him v Newcastle or Reading. I'm saying no... He could still stay, be sold, or be replaced. Club still clearly want him to and its not over til its over...but at some point...

We need to talk about Dale

They're only going to sell Stephens if : - he simply refuses a new contract and we won't improve it - a prem league club has an offer that meets his value on the table - we've signed or lined up a replacement. I think the answer to all of those at the moment is no. But obviously all or some...

We need to talk about Dale

Dunk refused to play last season for one game and then effectively dropped for the remaining opening games of the season when Uwe was signed despite being man of the match v Forest, and despite being fully fit. He wasn't "Off". He's still here. So how did that happen ?

We need to talk about Dale

Hughton hardly ever says that a player will play in a game. He says they are available. This is what he has said about DS ("he's available"). Not because he's obfuscating or trying to cover up stuff but because he doesn't want his opponents to know the team in advance and/or presumably because...

We need to talk about Dale

he didn't quite say that. he rarely says a player will be playing in the first team anyway. he says they'll be available. "[Dale] missed the first game of the season as well and the midweek cup game. “I wasn't going to start him and we just felt he would get more value from a good day's...

We need to talk about Dale

Latest full quote from Hughton... "No [he's not playing v Oxford] - but that's my choice. He has trained very well over the last couple of days. "He missed a chunk of the pre-season and pre-season games. We felt it's important to get his levels back up. It's my choice not to involve him...

We need to talk about Dale

Hughton said more in the same interview which was essentially about how to keep a strong squad happy. Which is what i'm going with Icy. ""It doesn't mean [rotating the squad] will always be the case," Hughton said. "We've had midweek games and cup games as well. "Sometimes I pre-plan something...

We need to talk about Dale

I understood it given he was talking about his selection so far this season, he's got four first choice midfielders , he hopes, so its going to to be difficult to decide who to play in that middle 2.

Here's the full quote http://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/14695574.Albion_Analysis__Why_a_draw_at_Reading_felt_like_a_defeat/ “Dale’s fine. I brought him and Ollie in midweek. I don’t know if he expected it but it was hard on Beram and Siddy. “I would imagine he saw that and if I looked at his...

We need to talk about Dale

Bloom has helpded fund and rebuild a team 3-4 times now in the last 6-7 years. Changing the manager, and the entire squad with three play offs in four seasons and one promotion.. Only once has it completely backfired. I don't buy the argument that this is the only chance we'll have. (Plenty...

We need to talk about Dale

These are 2 newspaper stories both reported independently of each other confirming the story (the Albion football writer for the Argus, the Burnley football writer for the Lancashire Telegraph). Twitter has nothing to do with it.

We need to talk about Dale

The fee for Kayal given his age, and injury record is not comparable to anything the club would attract for Stephens. No sensible club lets a player run down his contract these days. Albion are no different. Bloom effectively said this when asked at the Fan Forum. But i certainly don't know for...

We need to talk about Dale

Thats why Bloom has turned down £5m+ offers and thats why he'll invest ££s in a new contract to keep him (and Knockeart, Dunk etc). But he won't let Stephens run down his contract so he can leave on a free. (come to think of it I'm not sure his agent will either - no ££ for him)

We need to talk about Dale

Club don't want to sell him... But he doesn't , as yet, want to sign a new contract. If he continues to refuse or we don't offer a contract that he wants to sign, then it does make sense to sell him given he's a year left on his contract. Thats not a massive error.

We need to talk about Dale

The club will sell him if he won't sign a contract. He has a longer, more expensive contract on the table. Presumably either a) not expensive enough or b) he's hoping to wait until later into the window to use his leverage see if he gets offered a more expensive one c) waiting to see if the...

We need to talk about Dale

Hughton funnily enough said it was "simple" why he left Stephens out yesterday. But come on Forestieri (and Dunk last season for that matter) literally did refuse to play twice last week and within 48 hours and a few tears he's back in the shirt and Dunk was offered a big new contract a few...
