And I remain unconvinced about Burns to. Not sure he has the technique to score runs consistently. A 4-1 defeat feels inevitable.

Can’t disagree too much with your lineup although Bairstow opening doesn’t fill me with much confidence. I suppose the question for me is what has Denly done to warrant selection over Buttler apart from offering a reasonable leg spin option. At least Buttler has some scores at test level...

Even without captaincy, Root has never got close to the form and output of Smith. He’s in a league of his own and unfair to expect Root to match him when he’s playing like Don Bradman. If Root gets close to his best form that’s all you can ask.

Thanks again for your insight. Root is streets ahead in the county averages because he’s played one match with one not out in his 2 innings. In terms of not showing it in test he averages near 50. His captaincy might be problematic but his batting not at all. It’s the others around him...

Too aggressive for my liking, they actually played shots. I prefer my batsman to have zero back lift and employ a good leave. The Jack Russell leave was a thing of beauty.

Both have shown spells of being at test match level, in particular Bairstow who was probably our form batsman for 12/18 months. Both look mentally shot with their batting and this is now affecting their bowling and wicket keeping. Ali was dreadful as was Bairstow today. I think Leach is a...

As much as I don’t like changing teams so early in a series, Ali is almost certain to be replaced by Leach. The other one for me who looks bereft of confidence is Bairstow. Keeping and batting all at sea. Foakes seems the obvious replacement. Could be a very different England team next test if...

Smith and poor bowling are making it look flat. A decent spinner like Lyon will fancy his chances and they’ve got 3 very good and well rested seamers. We’re bang in trouble. Our body language is terrible now. Guaranteed Australia will have at least 8 overs at us tonight. I’d be amazed if they...

If they are 250 ahead at tea I’d expect them to hit out for 20 overs of the session to have a little dart at England (c.8 overs) before close of play.

It’s not evenly poised. Our attack is short on numbers and quality now. They are on top and even if we skittle them, I don’t think we will chase 200. I’d snap your hand off now for a draw.

With the rain forecasted the only outside chance of an England victory is to bowl them out in the next session. Massively unlikely with what looks like 2 bowlers down and 2 ordinary spinners on current form. The trick now is to stem the flow of runs to delay any Australian declaration. I...

Would really have helped him if he scored some runs, bringing a little bit of confidence from that onto the field would have helped. Instead he got out in really poor circumstances. I’d imagine he’s extremely low on confidence currently.

If you’re going to continually post uninformed drivel to the extent it dilutes the quality of the thread then expect some criticism. By BG’s admittance he doesn’t know much about cricket, I don’t know a lot about F1 so I wouldn’t continually post tripe day in day out. It’s not exclusively...

Very good session for Australia, right back in the match. Their outfielding was excellent throughout the session probably saved them 10/15 runs, all of which could be crucial. Brave man to call this now. Although the bookies have the Aussies at 11/5 which feels generous.

Bairstow & Ali are so out of nick. Definite case for Foakes now. Not sure I’d go with Rashid, too expensive and lacks control. Leach seems the more obvious replacement. That being said Ali is picked for his bowling so let’s see how he gets on there.

The right shot, just poorly executed. It was there to be hit.
