may be £29bn a year. thats the net contribution of motorist revenue (~40bn), less spending on roads (~11bn). no magic money tree here, all paid for.
what we really should be asking is why 10miles of road costs so much.
goes too far claiming drivers are subsidied, contribute ~£20bn net revenue, while rail costs more than that in gov spending. i bet they wont be given cash, more likely tax breaks and loans/gurantees (i dont think we should have them either, but sadly this is the way of government and corporate...

i think its just sniffy attitude to buses, trams seem a bit more like a train and held in higher esteem.
why would one use public transport if there is cheap available car rental. seems to me car rental would end up putting more cars on the road, as those that cant afford them now take up a cheap rental model. its our desire to make journeys that create car use, not a lack of public transport.
