    in theory you could make a far more efficient petrol or diesel engine running at continuous rpm to generate electricity. sure still uses fossil fuels but this might be a more practical solution if we accept we dont need to get to 0 emissions to make a meaningful impact.

    bio-ethanol fuels are superficially renewable. though some reports suggest lower MPG so may not be net benefit. yeah, they did same with biodiesel and overlooked the impact of tearing down forests to grow palm oil, to fuel european cars. CO2 trumps all considerations though.
