I don't think that being in favour of confronting racists makes you a "leftie" - to me it just makes you decent.
Even without opposition the EDL have been shown to behave in an aggressive, confrontational, racist manner.
I can understand the thinking behind just ignoring them an they'll go away...
I don't think it started off that way but it seems to have been fairly flooded by racist bigots.
Aren't there certain things we should oppose ? I don't see it as imposing a world view by standing up against racism.
I guess I don't necessarily support their methods (as a default way to deal with the EDL) but I do agree entirely with opposing fascism in all it;s forms.
Opposing racists , xenaphobes , homophobes etc .... is not similar to the Nazi's breaking up political meetings .....no. IMO

you don't have to be a "far leftie" to see the EDL for what it is and show your opposition.
for what it's worth - i'd rather have a group of anti fascists walking my streets than a group of fascists - each to their own though.....
