Interesting point on the BBC website. If you or I bit a fellow fan at a match we would almost definitely get a banning order for a few years and possibly even prosecuted for assault. Strange how a filthy rich player gets away with a 4 month ban.
Why ? It's the player being punished. What if he played for say Iran ? It would hardly be a punishment if he could still play premier league football and still collect his £xxx,000 a week and just miss a single Iranian international match.
Hopefully Liverpool won't be paying him.
That would be for the CPS to decide based on the evidence and likelihood of a successful prosecution. What I do think is that stepping within the white lines of a football pitch doesn't suddenly make you immune to the law.
No it's not - it depends on the intention. Most flying elbows are accidental - try proving which are accidental and which aren't. The film footage of the bite clearly shows he meant to do it.
So in your opinion, what does a player have to do on the field of play before they get punished ? GBH ? Rape ? Murder ?
The slimeball committed assault and just because it was on a football pitch and just because there have been other assaults that have gone unpunished does not mean he should...
