    I'm not suggesting for a moment YOU have anything to hide or have indeed done so. The reasons around cost you given seem slightly bizarre - give an officer a unique identifier when they join and away you go - my NI number doesn't change if I get a new job, get promoted to change my name...

    No indeed - that might be the case. Your heavy bag story is of some concern though given that guidance given to police officers ( and their commanders ) is that epaulettes should not be easy removable. If a bag can knock them off them a bit of a scuffle is hardly likely to keep them in place...
