Well my daughter breaks up on the 19th July and goes back 3rd September so that's more than six weeks. She was off for the same period last year but at a different school. My sons always have six weeks plus. I'm hoping you don't teach maths !
It's nothing to do with "in term" time and everything to do with out of term time. That's when childcare is needed and by staggering holidays it means an awful high cost to parents with more than one child.
Interesting point - I often go to France ( the Loire Valley as my parents have a home there ) and many businesses close down for a set period in which employees have to take their main holiday. I'm not opposed to that sort of idea just as long as the government imposes restrictions on holiday...

I'd be very surprised if it solved the holiday price bubble. How would it help childcare - if I have three children all at different schools that decide to have different holiday dates it will actually make it more difficult.

Agreed - as of next year I will have three children all in different schools. It's hard enough now to book a family holiday without the threat of being "fined", this will just make it worse.
