People seem to have the wrong impression of America's involvement with Israel. I think at times if the Yanks weren't there to broker situations involving the Israelis they'd have gone full metal jacket on some of the Arab states and wiped them out. Israeli's are some of the best fighting units...

You contradict yourself there. You said they don't want left wing dictators but then say they supported Pol Pot, a very left wing dictator. So what is it?

Which is why any group seeking to support secular societies should be supported.

It's about secularism. Same deal as in Turkey. Egypt was always a nation of great diversity. Islam threatens that diversity. If those who value secular socities don't make a stand they'll get swept over by the radicals.

Islam is the issue here though. Let's not pretend that those they shot are probably the same ilk of people who have been persecuting the ancient Coptic christians of Egypt. A group of people who have been part of the fabric of Egypt far longer than the Muslims.
