Yeah I know, but if you were bumping into the back of someone in the street you'd put your hands up to stop yourself tripping over them. I don't think it had to be a red card.
"He also said he had been told by a Premier League referee before the game that every 50-50 decision would go against his team."
WTF? Either a referee should be dismissed, or, maybe, Wilder was lying?
I don't know if it has to be as black and white as that - maybe he didn't intend to run in to the back of Mitoma, but it was clumsy and he left himself nowhere to go.
But they did get the correct decision.
We probably should have had a penalty - I wonder if Wilder's upset about that. Maybe if we'd got it, they'd have saved it and that would have given them the spark to go on and win the game.
I didn't say otherwise - either way it's a straight red. But if he wasn't looking at the ball, and was trying to kick Mitoma, then a 3 match ban isn't long enough.
By that point he's already missed the ball. Personally, I can't tell from what I've seen, but if you're sure he was just aiming for...
No it's not. The comments you've quoted below are in the same interview where he said older players would be shaking their heads at the red card, and that 5/10 years ago it was a yellow. Yes he does admit that it's now a red, but he's suggesting it wasn't a bad challenge and it's simply the game...
"The older players will be shaking their heads"
"5 or 10 years ago that would be a yellow"
I'm more angry about Wilder's comments than the tackle itself.
