Each year we missed out on promotion I felt it was going to get tougher to get promoted the following season, and that still looks to be roughly the case. There are a lot of teams in the Championship that have spent and tried to get promoted who can't even make the top half. So if the quality of...
It does look very unlikely Stoke will get the points they need.
Unlikely, but stranger things have happened.
If we lost all 4, West Ham will only need a point or 2, Hudds only need 2, Swansea only need 3. That's not much.
So it's really just us getting a little more, or SCC failing to get 7...
One step at a time. If we can become an established PL team we'll have some seasons where we're not worried about relegation, where we can maybe enjoy seeing some of the talent that comes to visit our little city, and we'll enjoy more victories against big clubs etc. And then there are improved...
No they don't. We both play City away. They play Chelsea at home, we play united. They play Bournemouth away, we play Burnley away. Even so far.
They play Southampton and Stoke at home, we play Liverpool away.
If it's between us and Swansea on the last day, and they're 3 points a 3 GD behind...
:glare:
Well just 2 wins, if they can get a draw against City.
You make me look like an optimist. I'm totally happy with just being an also ran in the PL. Winning every week against smaller clubs like Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday is great an' all, but we were operating at a loss and it wasn't...
Despite the way it's coming across in my furious posts, I'm totally chilled. What I'm not, however, is jumping around celebrating, and that's what I want to be doing :)
I don't think anyone thinks that. It's simply the case that our best chance of survival is for Southampton and Stoke to fail. If Southampton go on a run and stay up, it may well be at the expense of Swansea or Huddersfield, but it could also be at our expense.
Obviously we're in a good...
No game against City is easy, but can you think of a better time to be playing them? Their season will be over, they'll have lifted the trophy in front of their fans, played their last game at home, and they'll be thinking about the World Cup. If SCC need a draw in that game, at home, I wouldn't...
And they'd be above us on goals scored. And the chances are that one or more of the 4 losses for us and 2 wins for them 2 would be by more than one goal. If we finish on the same points, it's almost certain they would be above us.
Agreed.
Agreed again. Neither game will be easy for SCC, but winning both isn't that unlikely.
Southampton and Stoke will probably both finish with less than 36 points. We probably have enough. But I'd like a bit more than 'probably' please.
They needed 2 wins and 2 draws (to make us need another point). On paper you'd have put this as 3rd or 4th hardest game left, and they got a point. It's not a disaster for us, but it's nothing to celebrate either.
If we match their next result it's party time. But they're at home to Bournemouth...
And hopefully they won't get another 2. But there are plenty of seasons where a team that looks dead and buried get a few wins. Like Leicester a few seasons ago, and Sunderland with Gus.
That is far from certain.
Today's game was harder on paper than against Bournemouth or Swansea though.
Well obviously I hope we get more, but we might not.
If we lose 4 while they win 2, draw 1, and lose 1, the GD won't stay the same will it! They'd probably pass us.
